토익 고득점 영어공부 매일하기 4일차 - 마지막 몰입 : 나를 넘어서는 힘

반드시 5분 이상은 머릿속으로 영작을 해보는 것을 원한다.

아래 파란색 글씨는 아무리 생각해도 영어로 떠오르지 않는 표현이다.

 

4일차  그런데 문제가 하나 생겼다. 나는 창밖의 소방차를 볼 수 있을 만큼 키가 크지 않았다. 그때 한 아이가 의자를 끌고 와 올라서자 너도나도 따라 하기 시작했다.  나도 달려가 의자를 끌고 와서 창클 아래에 설치된 철제 라디에이터 옆에 놓았다. 그리고선 의자에 올라가 소방관을 홀린듯이 바라보았다. 정말 흥미로웠다. 불이나 그 어떤 재난에도 끄덕없을 듯한 제복을 입고 반짝이는 빨간차를 탄 용감한 영웅들의 활약을 나는 반짝이는 눈으로 입을 헤벌리고 바라보았다 (이 문장은 너무 어렵다 ㅜㅜ)

But there was a problem.  I wasn’t tall enough to look over the window and see a firetruck. And one of the children took the chair and stood up on the chair and everyone started doing that. I also grabbed the chair and put it next to an iron radiator. And then I watched firefighters on the chair. That was so exciting. They were with uniforms that looked like they would never break by any fire and digester. I just watched with my mouth open

 

그러면 이제 위의 내용이 정확히 영어로 어떻게 쓰였는지 확인해 보자!

The only problem was that I wasn’t tall enough to be able to look down at the fire trucks. One kid went to grab his chair to stand on, and that inspired the rest of us to do the same. I ran back to my desk to get mine, pushing it right up against the huge iron radiator that ran along the bottom of the window. I got up on my chair, saw the firefighters, and completely lit up.This was so exciting! My eyes stared and mouth gasped as I watched these courageous heroes in action with their seemingly impenetrable uniforms and their bright red vehicle

 

모르는 단어는 따로 적어서 사전 확인하고 (녹색) 쉬운데 내가 표헌하지 못했던 부분은 파란색으로 표시해 두고 연습한다.

Gasp : 헐떡 거리다 숨이 차다 : 숨참, 헐떡임. 

I’m running so hard that I gasp for air: 너무 빨리 뛰어서 숨을 헐떡인다 

 

Seemingly ~처럼 보이는

Why are people so skeptical of the seemingly right cause? 왜 옳은 얘기를 하는데 반응이 싸늘할까?

나는 불가능하게 보이는것이 가능한 장면을 보여주었다 

 

Impenetrable [impénətrəbl]  : 헤아릴수 없는, 무적의, 뚫고 갈 수 없는

 

문장 대 문장으로 한글과 영어 둘 다 각 문장씩 비교해 본다.

 

여기서 영어로 도저히 영작할 수 없었던 문장과 쉬운 영어 문장이었음에도 불구하고 

어처구니없게 영작한 부분들은 색깔을 주어 강조한다

 

그런데 문제가 하나 생겼다.
